The resultant effect is improved vascular resistance, and improved overall heart function. Magnesium has been shown to be useful in a number of cardiovascular conditions including; acute myocardial infarction, angina, arrhythmias, cardiomyopathy, congestive heart failure, intermittent claudication, and high blood pressure.

magnesium has been shown to relax the bronchial smooth muscles, resulting in easier breathing. This may be particularly helpful in conditions such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
