What is Chickweed Ointment used for?

Chickweed is commonly used as an external remedy for cuts and wounds, and is effectively used for the itching and irritation due to eczema or psoriasis.

WOUND HEALING – chickweed is known as a vulnerary herb i.e. useful in healing wounds, with particular activity in external injuries.

SKIN TONIC – chickweed also has emollient properties i.e. softening or soothing effect specially to the skin.

What is MARSHMALLOW ROOT used for?

WOUND HEALING - Externally, marshmallow root is indicated in varicose veins, ulcers, abscesses and boils. Marshmallow also acts as an effective vulnerary agent.

MUCILAGENOUS - the root contains over 30% mucilage, a thick glutinous substance, known to contribute to the soothing external effects.

SKIN TONIC – marshmallow is an effective emollient and demulcent i.e. soothes inflamed or injured skin.

What are MARIGOLD FLOWERS used for?

Marigold is one of the best herbs for treating local skin problems. It is often used wherever there is skin inflammation, whether due to infection or physical damage. It may be used for any external bleeding, wounds, skin ulcers, bruising, or strains.

SKIN HEALER – In ointment form calendula is an excellent cosmetic remedy for repairing minor damage to the skin such as broken capillaries or sunburn.

ANTI-INFLAMMATORY – marigold exerts an apparent systemic anti-inflammatory action and is particularly called for wherever there are swollen lymph nodes.

ASTRINGENT – calendula provides local astringent (skin tightening) effects due mainly due to the resin component and other water soluble constituents.

ANTI-PATHOGENIC – calendula acts against fungal, amoebic, bacterial and even viral infections.

 

What is Rosemary leaf used for?

Rosemary is a native of the countries surrounding the Mediterranean. The parts used in medicine are the flowering tops and leaves which have a powerful, diffusive, camphoraceous odour, and an aromatic, bitter taste.

CIRCULATORY TONIC– Externally it has been used to ease muscular pain, sciatica, and neuralgia. Rosemary acts as a circulatory and nervine stimulant and is often used externally in hair lotions for stimulating hair follicles to renewed activity and preventing premature baldness.

WOUND HEALING – rosemary is a traditional remedy as a poultice for poorly healing wounds and eczema – these effects are likely to its anti-septic activity.

ANTIOXIDANT – extracts of rosemary have been found to exert superoxide dismutase

(SOD) like activity. SOD is a powerful enzyme protecting cells against free radical damage.

 

What is LAVENDER OIL used for?

ANTI-RHEUMATIC – lavender appears to provide pain relief by improving circulation, having anti-spasmodic effects and exerting a local anaesthetic effect.

ANTI-MICROBIAL- lavender is noted for its antibacterial, antiseptic and antifungal effects, due to the presence of large amounts of volatile oils.

ANTIOXIDANT – a number of potent antioxidant phytochemicals such as limonene, provide free radical quenching activity.

AROMATIC – lavender is an aromatic stimulant often used in perfumery and is used to enhance the natural odour of the ointment.

Other ingredients: Beeswax, and sunflower oil act as an emulsion, carrier agent and protect the active herbal ingredients within the ointment.
