Is Paignton becoming one of the healthiest towns in Devon?

I have just had my third month of trading in Paignton as the little supplement company. After 3 years away from the Paignton high street I was a little nervous about opening up an small independent health shop back in Paignton. However I didn’t realise how many healthy places there were in this amazing little town. In the three months of trading business has been exceptional, my customers are very switched on and a pleasure to deal with. Many have become despondent with the internet and all its marketing hype and are returning to independent shops where they receive good proper face to face advice.

Starting from the top of Town!

If you start at the top of Victoria street the first shop you come to is a brilliant fresh fish shop.   All their fish is sourced locally and is daily caught. Rich in amazing amino acids and health boosting omega three, what a perfect healthy start to the high street. They do some unreal deals and the Scallops are AMAZING!

Next-door is the Sandwich Bar, an brilliant independently run takeaway bar who have started to do some really delicious healthy dishes. For me it has to be their mouth watering omelette or the boiled rice with spicy chicken and mushroom. As in most small independent businesses, the staff are friendly and helpful. These guys have been in town 10 years so well worth a visit.

Just across the street is my little health store, the little supplement company, with a wealth of experience in natural health; this is THE shop to go to for all your health questions. Mark Hamilton has won many national awards in the past for his shops in Paignton, often beating the big city shops on quality and service. If you want quality impartial friendly FREE advice - say no more.

Around the corner is an amazing healing centre called Riviera wellbeing. I personally cannot recommend these guys highly enough, as I tend to send my more injured customers to them. Phoebe who owns and practices in the centre has an incredible team of therapists ranging from chiropractors, sports massage, acupuncture and reflexology. The Riviera wellbeing centre are so busy they are in the middle of expansion to keep up with the demand for their excellent practices.

Back on the high street a couple of doors down from Nat West is the Grape Tree with a knowledgeable and passionate team selling amazing health foods and fantastic prices. When I started the little supplement company I was going to stock similar items, but after seeing how excellent these guys were and the incredible quality of the products, I would rather send my customers to them.

Only a few doors down from the Grape Tree you come to one of the best Butchers in Devon with some of the finest meats in the county. Again an independently run business that really cares about its customers.

Then we have Atlas Gym for those who want to work those biceps. A fantastic little old school gym with very friendly and knowledgeable staff. You can pay per session, pay per month or sign up for a year. If you train in the morning you will probably see an incredibly muscular fella with a north east accent using perfect technique.

So if you like great quality healthy produce and services from passionate independent small businesses the Paignton high street might just be worth a visit. As many small towns are slowly dying, it’s wonderful to see Paignton thriving and keeping that sense of community especially when it comes to all things healthy.
