5-HTP (5-hydroxytryptophan)
5-HTP is a chemical that the body makes from tryptophan, an essential amino acid. After tryptophan is converted into 5-HTP, the chemical is then changed directly into serotonin.
Appetite Control
• 5-HTP has been shown to have a potentially supportive effect in weight loss due to its role in increasing the feeling of satiety.1
Mood Regulation
-
5-HTP is a precursor for serotonin and thus in theory may be supportive for improving mood.2
-
5-HTP has been shown to be more effective in reducing depression than its precursor tryptophan.3
Pain Relief
-
Chronic headache pain has been suggested to be alleviated by the use of 5-HTP.4,5
-
It has also been shown that people with fibromyalgia have seen positive effects when using 5-HTP.6
Sleep Promoting
5-HTP is the precursor to serotonin which is converted to melatonin which promotes the sleep-wake cycle.7
May be Supportive for:
Weight management
Eating disorders OCD Fibromyalgia
Mild/moderate depression Insomnia
Migraines and headaches
